"Leigh Goodsell has been involved in photography since the age of four, initially under the watchful eye of his grandfather, also a photographer. His love and enthusiasm of the medium has stayed with him throughout his career since starting as a professional in 1984, and this shows through in the images he creates and the way in which he works.

He specialises in reportage style wedding photography and natural black and white portraiture of Children, People and animals."

...ok, I said all that myself, but it is true!

The early years

For those of you who are either interested, or just have nothing better to do, I thought I might give you some background and a few photographs to illustrate my introduction to photography.

There have been professional photographers in my family for five generations – it shouldn’t be surprising then, that I also have been lucky enough to find that my passion is my career.

Leigh Goodsell Photography - the beginning!

My first ever attempt at portraiture -
room for improvement....

Second attempt - much better....

I was introduced to photography at the age of 4 by my maternal grandfather (Gordon Anckorn, a photographer/journalist) and was given my first box camera. I virtually grew up in his darkroom, watching where possible, listening when not, transfixed by the magic of photography. He learnt his craft in a similar way – his grandfather (my great-great grandfather, W J Anckorn) was also a photographer.

W J Anckorn, himself

W J Anckorn was highly acclaimed (Gold medal at the Paris Exposition, Daguerre medal of the Vienna Exhibition, Highest Award for excellence at the Philadelphia exhibition of 1889) and was under the special patronage of Queen Victoria and the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII.
